• Artel's - Artel’s is an event catering company putting a British spin on classic Jamaican street food using family recipes handed down through generations. Their founder Joel wants to celebrate these age-old Jamaican recipes with a modern approach, presenting Caribbean food in a different light. In Joel’s words, their ‘approach to Caribbean cuisine is simple. Everyone is invited’. Their menu consists of Jerk chicken, pork and halloumi, as well as curries, awesome sides, Jerk burgers and fries.
Artel’s have seen widespread success since their launch and are developing the company further to spread knowledge, education and wealth not only via food but also through music and events. Design brand, A-COLD-WALL*, recently selected Artel’s as a recipient of their Black business grant alongside 11 other exceptional Black-owned businesses to receive funding to help their businesses continue to grow. In addition, Artel’s are planning to collaborate with a design studio to create a t-shirt to raise money and awareness for Black Minds Matter.

• The Clinic (Almeida Theatre, 3rd Sept to 1st Oct) - "There are flames in your eyes, telling me you’re going to be a wildfire." Wunmi is tired of the fight. When her world collapses, she turns to Ore for help. Ore resolves to save Wunmi, providing sanctuary in her parents’ home - a family of charity workers, therapists and politicians, dedicated to serving their community. Wunmi’s presence soon disrupts familiar patterns - cracks start to widen and bad blood thickens. As these pillars of society crumble, Wunmi wonders whether she’s walked into a refuge or a trap? The Clinic is a fiercely political and lyrical play by "seriously exciting new talent" (Evening Standard) Dipo Baruwa-Etti (An unfinished man, The Yard), written during a twelve-month residency with the Almeida as part of the Channel 4 Playwrights' bursary. This world premiere, directed by Monique Touko (Fair Play, Bush Theatre), is a tense and transfixing portrait of a woman with a hunger for change, a family on fire and how to rise from the ashes of a broken world.

WHAT I AM PERSONALLY RECOMMENDING?
1. Fish, Wings and Tings -If you’re heading to Brixton specifically to find Caribbean food, Fish Wings and Tings it a good place to start. As you’d expect, the vibes are chill and the food is solid. Jerk chicken, curried goat and salt fish fritters are all in the menu, with deliciously sweet mango sauce served with all dishes. And on a warm sunny day, there is nothing better than finding a spot on the outside benches with a few of your mates, ordering some food and cocktails, and just hanging out.
